The eighteenth - Last Gasp

The 18th – Last Gasp

From the eighteenth tee box nothing of the course can be seen, only  the marker post and distant fairways to the west.  This is a short par 4.  A moderate drive could end up in the fairway bunker whereas a long drive could reach the green or a clubhouse window. Alternatively, a modest tee-shot to the top of the slope allows a short iron to the green and another birdie opportunity.

And so to the eighteenth.  You may have posted a good score and won your 4 ball but remember that all “good” scores are relative.  A  young woman from St Andrews was pursued by two suitors, and vowed to marry the one who scored lower on Medal day.  One of her gallants was so keen to win her as a bride that he went to all kinds of lengths to put his opponent off and succeeded posting the better number.  But alas!  The lady would not give her hand to a score of 130.
